Mike, This years event was really nice it was good to add the MC and Band to last years line up. The venue is a wonderful place with Great food and service. Alex Wilson was excellent as MC kept things moving and fun for everynoe. As always Tragedy rocked the end of the event. I had a wonderful time with People that I respect and appreciate and I can only hope they feel the same for me. We had a different set of People this year. Some new faces were in attendance and some were sadly absent. However, the over all mood was of celebration and brother/sisterhood. I am so excited, I might just start planning next year today. :)

I was commenting on your 100% comment at the top of the thread. I went to a seminar back 8 years or so ago with Angi Uezu hosted by Jim LaRocco. Angi asked me to assist him in demonstrating some of the Bunkai of the Bo/Bo kumite. with him speaking half the words in Okinawan hogan and the rest in broken slurred English not a slam on Master Uezu(He was recovering from a recent stroke he had suffered) He said something, I shook my head in an agreeming manner... he thoguth I understood and did a kamae downward strike to my forehead. I didn't block it because I didn't know what he had asked me. I was concentrating 100% but still got wachked. :)

I second that emotion. (sorry to quote an oldie but goodie). I never let it be a secret that I haven't always been the biggest fan of kata. However, over the past few years I have come to appreciate and even enjoy kata. Learning more in-depth about the bunkai of the kata has opened my eyes to the true nature of kata.

I don't care about fads or whats popular for the moment. I have the utmost respect for those who run a brick-and-mortar school because they are constantly having to change and adapt to retain their students and to peak the interest of others to join. But that is not for me. I would prefer a handful of students who want to learn traditional martial arts. It's about the knowledge, not a belt or a title.

Take care
Sensei Papa,
I met you at this tournament last year. When I heard that the amazing Master Doyle Seiber may show up I didn't even want to compete because I didn't want to miss any time with him.
Your humility left a lasting impression on me that day, and it has not changed.
As a Teacher I would rather see my students win than for me to win. I know you feel the same way.

The World Karate Union H.O.F. Tournament was a great time last year and I am sure it was again this year as well. I did not go this year because of the drive, but if I would have known that you were going to be there I would have made the trip.
Congrats to you and Mr. Rollo all the way from Georgia.

Thank you very much for all the kinds words. I will share this with Mr. Rollo. Your comments just support everything I was taught over the last 30+ years. This is why I am honored to be affiliated with Master Seiber and other instructors of Isshinryu- following in the steps of Master Mitchum.

Maybe, Mr. Rollo can accompany Sensei Papa to Mike Taylor's tournament in October. Since it is an Open event, Shorin-Ryu would be a great addition to the Isshin-Ryu,Kung-fu,and Tae Kwon do stylist.
