The venue is a wonderful place with Great food and service. Alex Wilson was excellent as MC kept things moving and fun for everynoe. As always Tragedy rocked the end of the event. I had a wonderful time with People that I respect and appreciate and I can only hope they feel the same for me. We had a different set of People this year. Some new faces were in attendance and some were sadly absent. However, the over all mood was of celebration and brother/sisterhood. I went to a seminar back 8 years or so ago with Angi Uezu hosted by Jim LaRocco. Angi asked me to assist him in demonstrating some of the Bunkai of the Bo/Bo kumite. with him speaking half the words in Okinawan hogan and the rest in broken slurred English not a slam on Master Uezu(He was recovering from a recent stroke he had suffered) He said something, I shook my head in an agreeming manner... he thoguth I understood and did a kamae downward strike to my forehead. I didn't block it because I didn't know what he had asked me. I never let it be a secret that I haven't always been the biggest fan of kata. However, over the past few years I have come to appreciate and even enjoy kata. Learning more in-depth about the bunkai of the kata has opened my eyes to the true nature of kata. <br /> <br /> I don't care about fads or whats popular for the moment. I have the utmost respect for those who run a brick-and-mortar school because they are constantly having to change and adapt to retain their students and to peak the interest of others to join. But that is not for me. I would prefer a handful of students who want to learn traditional martial arts.
